Hire Ebikes
We hire the NZ-designed and Consumer NZ award winning ebikes by Sinch Bikes. They are hard tailed bikes ideal for the kind of terrain we offer trips to.
Key features include:
- Powerful Shimano motors with four modes including “walk” and long battery life (approx 80kms depending).
- Pedal assist technology, not a throttle.
- Front forks and seat post suspension to soft the ride.
- The Jaunt models have 27.5″ wheels, panniers, lights and mudguards.
- The mode models have no lights, a small font mudguard and a back pack to stow extra clothing.
We can access higher speced ebikes for those people who want a bit more performance. If we hire from a third party, that hire company’s terms and conditions are between you and them. Pay carefully attention to their theft and damage clauses.
Ebike hire is not included in each tour price and we encourage people to bring their own bike especially if you are driving to the start of one of our tours from a North Island location. However, if you are flying in from overseas or the South Island, we have an ebike just for you.

Human Power Bike Hire
We have the Trek Roscoe 7 mountain bike as our human powered hire bike. We’ve customized these bikes for a more comfortable and efficient multi-day ride on trails and gravel roads as opposed to the bike park.
Key features include:
- Tires: Maxxis Icons on the rear and Maxxis Ardent on the front for safer corning on gravel. Both tyres provide excellent traction and durability on various terrains.
- Grips: Ergon GP3 grips offer ergonomic comfort and reduce hand fatigue and soreness.
- Headset: BBB HighSux stem headset allows for adjustable handlebar positioning and features a GoPro mount for easy action shot capture.
- Pedals: Shimano PD-M324 pedals offer reliable performance and compatibility with both clipless and flat shoes.
Whether you’re joining one of our guided tours or embarking on a solo bike packing adventure, our customized Trek Roscoe 7 bikes are the perfect choice.
B.Y.O.B. – bring your own bike
That’s great! Here are a few things to note.
Important! You will need a mountain bike styled bike. Under no circumstances bring a road bike! Also, a full-on downhill MTB won’t give you all the gears you’ll want to climb. Gravel bikes can work on some trips too.
Make sure you have your bike serviced first as we are unable to provide much more than basic bike repairs on the trail. eg. puncture repair, chain repair, other problems like snapped derailleur, not so much.
Please BYO helmet, drink bottle and spare inner tube.
Your bike is your responsibility at all times. You indemnify us from any damage to the bike in transit.
