The Tour of Aotearoa and the Kopiko Aotearoa are challenging, multi-day cycling adventures, and it’s important to be prepared. Please read the following carefully and honestly assess whether this trip aligns with your abilities and mindset.
✅ I have trained adequately before the trip and understand that I will be riding consecutive days, often covering 100 km or more per day.
✅ I am self-sufficient with basic bike maintenance. I can:
- Fix a puncture and replace a tube.
- Use a speed link to repair a broken chain.
- Clean and lube my bike to keep it running smoothly.
✅ I can navigate confidently. I am comfortable using at least two of the following:
- A written cue sheet
- A mobile phone app (e.g., Ride with GPS)
- A Garmin or Wahoo GPS device
✅ I am well-organized and respectful.
- I can get my bag packed and onto the support van on time each morning.
- I am courteous to all involved in the trip, including guides, drivers, and service staff.
✅ I have a flexible, group-focused approach.
- If the trip leader modifies the route or cancels riding due to weather or safety concerns, I understand that safety comes first and will adapt accordingly.
If you cannot confidently say “yes” to all of the above, this trip may not be the right fit for you. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to discuss whether this tour matches your abilities and expectations.
Self Sufficient in Navigation
While some of the trails are signed posted, you will need to be self-sufficient at navigation. For navigation four modes are offered. It’s best to have two ways:
- PDF/printed PDF
- Google map, preload map data.
- Ride with GPS, phone app.
- Download the GPX files to your Garmin or Wahoo device
